Azeri gas output surges 31% in 8M 2019

Azerbaijan increased production of marketable gas by 30.9% yr/yr to 15.86bn m3 during the first eight months of 2019, its statistics committee reported on September 19.

Gross production, which includes volumes that were re-injected into oil reservoirs to maintain pressure, also rose by 18.1% to 23.74bn m3 during the period. Azerbaijan's energy ministry told NGW that the amount of gas lost - either through flaring or during transmission - came to 5.6% of total production.

The country exported 7.41bn m3 of gas worth $1.42bn in January through August, amounting to a 60.1% growth in volumes and a 61.9% increase in value. Exports from BP-led offshore Shah Deniz field rose 31.9% to 6.58bn m3 due to the start-up of its second phase of development in mid-2018, accounting for 89% of total exports.

Azeri oil and gas condensate production declined 2.4% yr/yr to 25.17mn metric tons in the eight months, of which 21.45mn mt valued at $10.45bn was exported. Liquid exports were up 7.6% in volume terms but down 0.4% in value.
