Azerbaijan’s SOCAR Works on Pipeline Developments

Azerbaijan’s SOCAR reports the inauguration of the first part of a gas pipeline in Georgia and the drilling of a well on field Galmaz, while the delegation led by SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev met the Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha and Edi Rama, leader of Socialist Party, winner of recent parliamentary elections.

‘The current state of bilateral relations, TAP project and development potential of the Albania gas market, Azerbaijan’s role in the European energy security, importance of the development of economic relations between Azerbaijan and Albania were in the focus of attention during the meetings,” reads a note released on Wednesday, adding that the sides agreed to develop bilateral meetings.

The Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) has emerged as a winner in a long race, primarily against the Nabucco project, in a June 28th decision by the Shah Deniz Consortium. The result surprised at least a few as numerous off-the-record estimations by stakeholders concluded that both projects would be selected, or that an eventual delay on the decision was to be expected. SOCAR has a 10% stake in the Shah Deniz field.

Also on Wednesday, SOCAR inaugurated the first part of the gas pipeline in Georgia. As previously announced, the company expects to proceed with the constructions. It expects the network to extend 625 miles by next year.

On Thursday, the company announced it commissioned a well on field Galmaz, drilled to a depth of 2,057 metres with a production rate of 160,000 cubic metres of gas per day.
