Axxela Plans Nigerian Gasification
Axxela – formerly known as Oando Gas & Power – has submitted a feasibility study to the Nigerian Gas Processing and Transportation Company (NGPTC) to build a pipeline network across the western and central states of Nigeria.
The proposed pipeline project was conceived as part of the Nigeria Gas Master Plan to improve power generation and distribution to major cities in southwest Nigeria. The pipeline is expected to start in Ibadan, Oyo State and run through the towns of Osogbo, Ogbomoso, Ilorin and Ado-Ekiti before terminating in Jebba, Kwara State.
According Axxela CEO Bola Osunsanya, the plan chimes well with the federal government's aspirations to improve the power situation in the country, using gas that would otherwise be flared.
On October 9, Nigerian midstream company, Oando Gas & Power became known as Axxela. The change happened after Helios Investment Partners last year paid $115.8mn for a 75% stake in it.
The company has become the largest private sector natural gas distributor in Nigeria, delivering at peak 70mn ft³/d to over 175 industrial and commercial customers. With over 260 km of gas pipeline built, the company trades through several subsidiaries: Gaslink Nigeria, Gas Network Services and Central Horizon Gas Company.
