Austria’s INNIO joins UN Global Compact
Austrian natural gas company INNIO said August 10 it had joined a UN-backed sustainability initiative to build on its own environmental, social and governance programme.
A day after a red alert from the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, INNIO said it joined the UN Global Compact, “the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative.” By joining, INNIO said it was building on its established track record on sustainability.

“While our expertise lies in the domain of power generation and gas compression, we recognise that our responsibility does not end with the sustainable production and delivery of electricity and gas compression,” CEO Carlos Lange said. “As a responsible corporate citizen, we are ethically and morally bound to maintain a responsible role as it pertains to human rights, labor, and anti-corruption as well as the environment.”
The UN program advocates for transparency and responsible business practices. Apart from its stated position on ethical issues, the company said its commitment to the UN programme exemplified its pursuit of a climate-neutral future.
INNIO started field tests of a 1 MW pilot power plant that could operate on variable mixtures of natural gas and hydrogen. Depending on the process, hydrogen can be produced with a near-zero carbon footprint.
