Australia's Invictus reports second gas discovery at Mukuyu-2 in Zimbabwe

Perth-based Invictus Energy on December 15 announced a second gas discovery in the Mukuyu-2 well at its Cabora Bassa project in Zimbabwe. This follows the company's initial announcement of a gas discovery in the same well just last week.

“We are delighted to declare an additional gas discovery from the Mukuyu-2 sidetrack well in the Lower Angwa formation,” said Invictus managing director Scott Macmillan. “The discovery of gas in both the Ipper and Lower Angwa greatly expands the resource in the Mukuyu gas field and marks another significant milestone for Invictus.”

The Mukuyu-2 well has yielded a total of eleven hydrocarbon samples to the surface from both the Lower Angwa and additional Upper Angwa gas zones. Invictus reported a preliminary estimate of a net pay of 34.9 m from Mukuyu-2 across Upper and Lower Angwa. 

In light of these positive results, Invictus is gearing up for the next phase of operations. The company plans to commence well testing at Mukuyu-2, and further activities will include drilling appraisal wells and exploring new prospects across its extensive portfolio. Invictus has secured Rig 202 for an additional two years to facilitate these upcoming operations.

The Cabora Bassa project, in which Invictus holds an 80% ownership stake and operates, encompasses the Mzarabani and Msasa gas and condensate prospects.
