Armenia Pipeline Work Gets Under Way

Armenia will receive no Russian gas for 30 days from August 3, Gazprom Armenia said the day before, but gas demand can be met from storage. The supply of gas ceases “in connection with work on the North Caucasus - Transcaucasia gas main,” the company said. “Gas supply to the republic's consumers will be carried out without restrictions,” the report says.

The 137-km Russian section of the pipeline has a capacity of 16mn m³/day. The pipeline, which begins in Mozdok in North Ossetia, carries gas to Georgia, which then transits it to Armenia.

Armenia has an underground storage facility at Abovyan, near the capital city of Yerevan. The maximum capacity of the facility at present is up to 135mn m³ and the maximum withdrawal is 6mn m³/day.

Gazprom Armenia plans to expand the underground gas storage by 2018, with a new compressor station and two new wells. According to the development program, the volume of natural gas storage will increase further, reaching 230mn m³ by 2020.
