APR to supply EPP with Brazilian power plant
US power plant builder APR Energy (APR) is set to supply Evolution Power Partners (EPP) with a 228-MW natural gas-fired power plant, the company said on February 8.
The plant will be powered by eight GE TM2500 gas turbines and installed in Itaguai, Rio De Janeiro, with an expected commercial operation date of May 1, 2022.

Despite being the country with the largest reserves of fresh water on the planet, Brazil experienced the worst drought in 91 years in 2021 which impacted the availability of hydropower in the country. With over 60% of Brazil’s electricity produced through hydroelectric plants, the economy has been impacted. The situation is predicted to continue with dry conditions throughout 2022.
ANEEL, Brazil's National Electricity Regulatory Agency held auctions for power generation and EPP was declared one of the winners in October 2021.

APR is a wholly owned subsidiary of global asset management firm Atlas Corp.
