APPEA launches new name to reflect industry's transition

Australia's peak oil and gas industry body, the Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association (APPEA), has rebranded as Australian Energy Producers, reflecting the industry's expansion beyond oil and gas to include low-carbon fuels, hydrogen production, and carbon capture technologies.

The new name was launched on September 13. Samantha McCulloch, CEO of Australian Energy Producers, said that the change represents a new phase in the organisation's history, which was established as the APPEA in 1959. The membership now includes over 170 companies.

"The world is changing, the energy system is changing and our industry has already expanded its focus beyond oil and gas exploration and development to also cover low-carbon fuels and net zero technologies," McCulloch said.

The annual industry event, formerly known as the APPEA Conference & Exhibition, will now be called the Australian Energy Producers Conference & Exhibition.
