APLNG Ships First LNG to Japan's Kansai Electric
Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) has dispatched its first shipment to Japan's Kansai Electric Power Company.
In a statement released Thursday, Origin Energy, one of the partners in the project, said the first shipment left Curtis Island on Wednesday to be delivered to Kansai Electric.
The super chilled fuel is being carried by LNG Fukurokuju, which was recently built to fulfil Kansai Electric’s contract with Australia Pacific LNG. As per the agreement signed, Kansai Electric will receive approximately 1 million tonne of LNG each year for 20 years.
This shipment to Kansai Electric marks the 27th shipment by APLNG since exports began. Origin said that it is pleased with operations from Train 1 and expects to deliver the first cargo from Train 2 by the end of this calendar year.
APLNG is a joint venture comprising Origin, ConocoPhillips and Sinopec. It is the largest producer of natural gas in eastern Australia.
