Amec Wins Role in Australia's Ichthys

UK-based contractor Amec Foster Wheeler said October 3 it has been awarded a consultancy contract by Japan’s Inpex, for the Ichthys LNG project offshore northern Australia.

Amec will provide a team of production and maintenance assessors to carry out competency assessments for the Ichthys operations and maintenance teams across all project assets. This includes the central processing facility, the floating production vessel (FPSO), and Bladin Point LNG two-train onshore processing plant near Darwin. Assessments will be aligned to Australian national competency standards for the process industry.

Inpex operates Ichthys. Partners include Total, along with five Japanese firms Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Chubu Electric, Toho Gas, Kansai Electric and Taiwan’s CPC. They took the US$34bn final investment decision on the venture on January 13 2012 and awarded the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to the JKC joint venture of Japan’s JGC, Chiyoda and US firm KBR. Production from Ichthys is scheduled to start in 2017; it will have export capacity of 8.94mn mt/yr LNG, 1.66mn mt/yr LPG, and 104,000 b/d condensates at peak.

Early in September the final three of 230 modules needed to build the project’s onshore processing facilities arrived safely at the project’s Bladin Point onshore LNG facilities construction site.
