AKR, BP to develop LNG import project in Indonesia

Indonesian company AKR Corporindo has partnered with BP Gas & Power Investments to develop an LNG import project in Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate (JIIPE) at Gresik, East Java, it said on December 6.

The project will involve the construction of a regasification terminal, bringing a reliable gas supply to tenants within the JIIPE industrial complex. Additionally, the project anticipates excess capacity, creating the potential to supply the existing gas pipeline network in East Java.

"This collaboration aims to provide a robust gas supply solution for JIIPE tenants, while simultaneously offering the potential to support the wider East Java region," AKR stated.

The project is expected to be operational around 2027, strategically coinciding with the launch of several major gas-consuming projects within JIIPE.

BP recently shipped the first LNG cargo from its Tangguh Train 3 in West Papua. It also recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Pertamina to explore the potential for gas supply and carbon dioxide injection projects in Tangguh.
