Aker BP Comes Up Dry Off Norway

Aker BP has come up dry at a wildcat at the Vaagar prospect in the Norwegian Sea, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) said in an August 20 statement.

The well was sunk 65 km northeast of the Norne oil and gas field, and was the first at production licence 762, awarded in 2013. It reached a depth of 2,724 metres and encountered 285 metres of carbon rocks within a Permian layer. These rocks had mostly poor reservoir quality, NPD said, noting that the well was dry.

The borehole has been plugged and abandoned, while the Deepsea Stavanger used to drill it has already moved on to spud a well at North Sea production licence 986, also for Aker BP.
