ADNOC sells third blue ammonia cargo to Japan
The Abu Dhabi National Oil company (ADNOC) announced August 18 that it sold a cargo of blue ammonia to a company in Japan, its third such sale to date.
Through a partnership with Fertiglobe, a venture between Adnoc and chemicals producer OCI, a cargo of blue ammonia was sold to Japanese energy company Inpex for use in the power generation sector.
The blue ammonia was produced at the Fertil plant at the Ruwais industrial complex in Abu Dhabi.
“The sale represents a further production milestone of a planned scale-up of blue ammonia production capabilities in Abu Dhabi, which is expected to include a low-cost debottlenecking program at Fertil,” ADNOC said.
ADNOC made its first sale of blue ammonia to Japan on August 3 and followed up with its second about a week later. It announced in May it would build a 1mn mt/yr blue ammonia production plant in Ruwais. It plans to re-inject the resulting CO2 emissions from the production process into oilfield reservoirs to boost pressure. Fertiglobe signed up to help develop the project in June.
