Polish Shale Gas Could Flow in Five Years

Shale gas production in Poland could be possible on a large scale in five years, earlier than expected, Kamlesh Parmar, head of Lane Energy Poland. told Rzeczpospolita.

Parmar’s optimistic appraisal is to be noted, as previously analysts and government officials have been cautious in the estimating the commercialization of  Polish shale gas production, expecting it to start in 8-10 years.

According Parmar, the next four years will see a focus on exploration, drilling and testing, including fracturing treatments.

Parmar believes it is  too early to estimate potential profitability of unconventional gas production in Poland, a key factor for wider investments in the sector. He also said that several significant differences made it difficult to draw analogies between Poland and the success seen in the American market.

Parmar added Lane Energy, a unit of London listed 3Legs Reources plc., and its partner ConocoPhillips, will know more about potential scope for production on its Lebork licence in November after results from testing and hydraulic fracturing are received. Initial drilling encountered gas  on the Lebork licence.  Similar proving activities will be conducted in the new year on the Warblino LE-1H well on its Damnica licence.
