E-on explores biogas integration at London’s Elephant and Castle energy centre
E-on said on August 8 that it is exploring opportunities to incorporate biogas into its Elephant and Castle energy centre in the London Borough of Southwark.
The site, which currently features an expandable heating network for a community of 3,000 apartments, 50 shops, restaurants, and cafes in the vibrant London area, provides low-carbon heating and hot water to its customers.
"With the addition of biogas, we are looking to decarbonise the development even further," the company stated.
E-on operates a biogas plant on the outskirts of Stockholm in Hogbytorp, where food waste and other organic materials are converted into biogas. The plant has a production capacity of 60 GWh/year and maximises recycling efforts, with residual products being transformed into electricity via combined heat and power technology.
